Anna Meredith is a composer of acoustic and electronic music as well as a performer, curator, occasional TV/radio contributor and animateur. Anna has recently been appointed as the third PRS/RPS Composer in the House and will be working with André de Ridder and Sinfonia Viva from 2010-2012.

As a concert composer she has written for Ensemble Modern, the LSO, the London Sinfonietta, the BBC Philharmonic, the SCO, the Smith Quartet, orkest de ereprijs and Horses Brawl amongst many others, and was Resident Composer of the BBC SSO between 2004-2007. She was the classical music representative for the South Bank Show Breakthrough Award and won the 2010 Paul Hamlyn Award for Composers.

Anna came to public attention in 2008 when she wrote froms for the BBC Last Night of the Proms which used live elements from the various Last Night of the Proms and Proms in the Park concerts and was televised to over 40 million people.   Since then she has written a new Prom Commission (a Double Piano Concerto), her first opera, Tarantula in Petrol Blue, with libretto by Philip Ridley, commissioned by Aldeburgh Music; and orchestral arrangements for electronica artists Matmos and the LCO.  Her Concerto for Beatboxer and Orchestra with the beatboxer Shlomo was premiered at the Southbank Centre in Feb 2010.

Anna has been a judge for the BBC Young Musician of the Year, a mentor for Goldie for the TV show Classic Goldie and guest and commentator for the BBC Proms and other Radio 3 and 4 shows.  She coaches the composers of the National Youth Orchestra and will be writing a new piece for the NYO as one of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad commissions.
