Carla Huhtanen

Soprano

Carla Huhtanen began her career in Italy and France at Teatro La Fenice in Gershwin’s Lady, Be Good!  and Cherubini’s Anacreon. She sang Angelica in Handel’s Orlando and the title role in Purcell’s Fairy Queen in Marseille and the Aix festival. Carla sang with the UK’s Garsington Opera (Lisetta in La Gazzetta and Serpetta in La Finta Giardiniera), with London’s Mostly Mozart series at the Barbican, and also toured to Germany with the Welsh National Opera Orchestra. Other European highlights include Bernstein’s Candide at the Royal Festival Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra and a reprise of Lady, Be Good! in Lisbon.

Carla makes her home in Toronto, where she sings regularly with Opera Atelier and Tapestry New Opera. Contemporary music performances with Soundstreams, New Music Concerts, Art of Time Ensemble and Music on Main include works by Adès, Crumb, Knussen, Leroux, Saariaho, Salonen, and Scelsi, as well as recent premieres by Gabriel Dharmoo, Jocelyn Morlock, Cassandra Miller, Edward Top, and Brian Harman.
