Carolyn Blackwell

Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Carolyn Blackwell has shared the stage with Martin Beaver, Alicia Weilerstein, Renaud Capuçon, Daniel Phillips and Mayumi Seiler.  She is guest violist with the Art of Time Ensemble and the Artists of The Royal Conservatory. Carolyn performs regularly with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, The National Ballet of Canada, The Canadian Opera Company and is violist of the Tokai String Quartet.  Carolyn completed her studies with Steven Dann and Nick Pulos. She is an avid chamber musician and has performed as acting violist of The Aviv Quartet, collaborated with members of the Vienna Piano Trio, the St. Lawrence String Quartet and is a member of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra.  She can be heard on CBC and BBC Radio.  Highlights from this season included The Verbier Festival, Music at Port Milford and the Brett Dean String Quintet alongside the composer.  Upcoming engagements include Cervo Chamber Music Festival (Cervo,Italy) and a tour of China, UAE and Cyprus with Gautier Capucon and Thomas Quasthoff.  Carolyn is currently on trial for the position of Co-Principal with the English National Opera in London, UK.
