James Clarke, born in London in October 1957, is a composer and artist. He has also written one play, performed at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in 1974. His musical work consists of over ninety compositions, written for symphony orchestra, solo musicians and ensembles. These include five works written for the Arditti String Quartet and four for the ensemble Klangforum Wien; a large-scale composition written in collaboration with Harold Pinter for nine actors, solo musicians and orchestra, entitled Voices; several works for the pianist Nicolas Hodges, including Untitled No.2 for piano and orchestra, performed in Darmstadt in 2008 and at the Barbican Hall, London, in 2011.
