Jennifer Waring

Jennifer Waring is a native of the Gatineau Hills, Quebec and flutist by training. Under her leadership Continuum has recorded, toured Canada and Europe, performed student workshops at schools ranging from the University of British Columbia to Trinity College on Music in London England, commissioned over 100 new works and engaged in interdisciplinary projects.

Another facet of her interests is reflected in the project that she first mounted with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 1997. "Music by the Masses" invited audience members and the general public to engage in the creative process in music by composing pieces under the guidance of professional composers and working with symphony musicians. Now called "Composing for a Change", the project has had successful runs with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and Music Toronto with the Gryphon Trio.

From the fall of 2005 to January 2007 Jennifer was engaged in a research residency in Amsterdam at the Gaudeamus Foundation. An outcome of that experience is SHIFT, a festival of Dutch and Canadian music, film, literature and visual art to take place at the Muziegebouw in Amsterdam (2008) and Harbourfront in Toronto (2009).

Jennifer has degrees from the University of Ottawa and the University of Toronto and studied flute in London with William Bennett and in Paris with Alain Marion. She is on the faculty of The Royal Conservatory of Music.
