Joseph Macerollo

Accordion

Joseph Macerollo has achieved a rare status as an icon of the concert accordion in Canada and internationally.  His performances with organizations such as the Toronto Symphony, Canada Opera Company, National Ballet of Canada, Winnipeg Orchestra and the Orford and Purcell Quartets were unprecedented for an accordionist.  He opened the door for numerous commissions by Canadian composers with The Canada Council, Ontario Arts Council, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and became the first instructor of accordion at The Royal Conservatory of Music, Faculty of Music University of Toronto and Queen’s University in Kingston.  He was recognized by the Moscow Federation of Accordionists with a silver disc (2005) for his leading pioneer work for the accordion and a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Toronto Musicians’ Association (2009) for his cultural service.  Joseph was named Officer of the Order of Canada in 2013.
