Leilei Tian (b. 1971 in China) began studying piano at the age of six. From 1988 to 1995 she studied in the Department of Composition in Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing where she obtained her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees of Arts. In 1997, she went to Sweden to study with Ole Lützow-Holm in the Conservatory of Music in Göteborg and graduated with a Diploma in 2001. At the same time she attended many master classes in Europe such as Summer Workshop in Ircam, Avantgarde Schwaz in Austria, Ferienkurse Darmstadt, Young Composers meeting in Apeldoorn, "Voix Nouvelles" at Royaumont and Centre Acanthes in Avignon. From 2002 to 2003, she studied for the one-year long course Cursus de Composition et d'Informatique Musicale de Ircam à Paris.
Leilei Tian's music has been widely performed in Asia, Europe and America by professional ensembles, among others: Nieuw Ensemble of Amsterdam, Nouvelle Ensemble Moderne of Montreal, Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philhaimonic Orchestra, KammarensembleN of Stockholm, Göteborg Symphony Orchestra, National Orchestra of Radio and Television of Serbia, Les Jeunes Solistes of Paris, Ensemble Earplay of San Francisco etc. She has been receiving commissions from the French Ministry of Culture, Royaumont Foundation, Swedish Concert Institute and different ensembles. She is also the winner of competitions such as International Gaudeamus Competition for Young Composers in Amsterdam 1999 (Honorable Mention.)  She has lived in France since 1999.
