Yannis Kyriakides was born in Limassol, Cyprus in 1969 , emigrated to Britain 1975 and has been living in the Netherlands since 1992. He studied music at York University, and later composition with Louis Andriessen and Dick Raaijmakers. He has focused in the majority of his work in working within hybrids of media. Prizes have included the Gaudeamus prize in 2000 for a conSPIracy cantata, a French Qwartz award for the CD Antichamber, the  Dutch Toonzetters and Willem Pijper prizes and an honorary mention at the Prix Ars Electronica. He has been the featured composer at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and November Music, his opera Ocean of Rain, opened the Aldeburgh Music Festival in 2008, and his sound installations where shown at the Venice Biennale in 2011. He co-founded and runs a label for experimental music, Unsounds, is a member of Ensemble MAZE,  and teaches composition at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag.
