Archie

2005 listen

Archie was commissioned by the 2005 Semley Festival and first performed by Band of Instruments on August 5th 2005. The piece initiates a dialogue between compressed baroque-like keyboard figurations and ornamented expansive folk-like violin melodies (which seek to escape from the restriction of the opening material). Following an obsessive metaphorical "bridge" section, we enter a new world in which both of the opening materials fuse into something very different. Archie was recorded by the Fidelio Trio and released on the NMC disc Bartlebooth.
