This work deals with an interplay of abstractions from polyphonic Sardinian folk idioms and clarinet multiphonics. From these elements I endeavoured to create a complex proliferation of detail out of things that are essentially simple, and to derive concepts of movement from these relationships. This work also attempts to investigate the autonomous yet interconnected relationships formed by matter and perception.

Justin Christensen CA

After recently completing studies in The Netherlands, he is currently working on a PhD in the UK with Michael Finnissy. In The Netherlands he studied composition with Louis Andriessen, Clarence Barlow, Richard Ayres, Martijn Padding and Diderik Wagenaar at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague.  Preceding that, he completed degrees in composition and trumpet performance at McGill University in Canada with John Rea.  He is very thankful for the substantial support that he has received from the Canada Council to facilitate the composition of this work for Continuum and to help further his studies. He has also recently had works performed by the Aventa Ensemble, Asko Ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble, and Insomnio.
