Mobile won third prize at the ECCS Young Composer's Competition, and had its world premiere in Edmonton that year. It's Toronto premiere was at Earshot Concerts' inaugural show in February 2000. It is a quiet, contemplative work that explores his peculiar methods of perpetual variation and his interests in music, mathematics and geometry.  The result is a prelude to the afternoon of a desert, perhaps, or a gentle clockwork set in motion, gradually winding down, the ending implicit in its beginning.

Keith Denning CA

Keith Denning is a Toronto-based composer and performer who studied composition with Walter Buczynski, Chan Ka Nin and Lothar Klein at the University of Toronto between 1989 and 1993. His compositions range from single-instrument miniatures to works for large ensembles, from pop and jazz to electroacoustic and new music. Keith plays clarinet in the Ugly Bug Band and is a founding member and general manager of Earshot Concerts, as well as president of Grace Under Press, a small imprint dedicated to the publication of new Canadian music.
