Continuum Contemporary Music is delighted to announce a call for applications from early-career composers, based in the Toronto area, or those who can provide their own accommodation in Toronto for the duration of the program.

The three selected composers will have their works performed by an early-career ensemble (also part of HATCH, mentored by Continuum’s core ensemble) of Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Cello, Piano and Percussion; conducted by Brian Current. Rehearsals will take place between July 25–31 at Continuum’s Studio in the Toronto.

Four performances of the works will take place between July 31 and August 7 at:

The Toronto Summer Music Festival
The Stratford Summer Music Festival
Ottawa Chamberfest
Festival of the Sound, Parry Sound

Transportation will be provided for each concert, as will accommodation in Ottawa.

Continuum will also provide a $500.00 stipend to each of the selected composers.

Selected composers will mentor with Linda Smith and James Rolfe in the months prior to rehearsals through a series of lessons and throughout the rehearsal and performance process. Composer/Conductor Brian Current will also mentor during the rehearsal and performance schedule with a focus on notation and communication. Works from the 3 mentor composers will also be performed on the same concert alongside the early-career works performed by the early-career ensemble for a total of 6 works on the program.

High quality video and audio will also be provided to the selected composers.
