The Second Annual Toronto Teen Composer Award

A composition mentorship for TDSB students

Continuum Contemporary Music is pleased to announce the second annual Toronto Teen Composer Award (TTCA).  Here’s how it works:

  • • One student will be selected by a jury of contemporary music specialists to receive professional mentorship from acclaimed composer Christopher Thornborrow
  • • Through the mentorship process, the selected student will create a new work, which will be performed by Continuum’s internationally acclaimed ensemble in a special pre-concert presentation on January 21 at 918 Bathurst, as part of Continuum’s 2017–2018 concert season
  • • The selected student will receive audio and video recordings of the performance
  • • Continuum’s Artistic Director and percussionist Ryan Scott will also provide a lesson on writing for percussion

The TTCA is a Toronto-wide initiative – all Toronto District School Board secondary school students, enrolled in their school’s music program, are invited to apply.

The TTCA will provide an invaluable and practical compositional experience, one-on-one mentorship, professional development resources and an introduction to the Canadian new music community.

Continuum is strongly committed to diversity within its community and especially welcomes applications from racialized persons / persons of colour, women, Indigenous/Aboriginal People of North America, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ persons, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas.
