Continuum presented SHIFT, a festival of Canadian and Dutch music, film, literature and visual art, in Amsterdam in November 2008, and in Toronto February 25 – March 3 and April 2, 2009. SHIFT provided an unprecedented platform for the exchange of artists, ideas and cultures. Canadian presenting and supporting partners included Authors at Harbourfront, Images Film Festival, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund, DUCA, Curbside Cycle, the Guild of Canadian Film Composers and Niemeyer’s Imports; Dutch presenting and supporting partners included Muziek Centrum Nederland, the Muziekgebouw, the Ives and ASKO ensembles, Fond voor de Kunst and Dutch Foreign Affairs (through the Embassy in Ottawa and the Consulate in Toronto). For complete information on SHIFT please visit the SHIFT website.

Continuum’s SHIFT Toronto concert is a joint performance with the famed Dutch Ives Ensemble in a repeat of the programme premiered in Amsterdam. Works were specially commissioned for these concerts, for the ensembles combined and separate, from some of the most interesting Canadian and Dutch composers on the scene today.
