Ma - the tension between silence and sound - is explored in this concert featuring members of Okeanos, a UK-based ensemble specializing in the performance of contemporary music on traditional Japanese instruments. Featured are masterworks from the late 20th century, traditional works and a premiere by Max de Wardener. In a pre-concert chat, Jinny Shaw discusses her experience of studying sho with Japanese master sho players; branching tradition with modern conceptualizations, The Japan Foundation furnishes the gallery with a showing of contemporary graphic design artworks.
