Continuum in the Classroom

Under the guidance of educator Emilia Huang-Kim and composer Chris Thornborrow, elementary school students use new technologies to create original works which are then performed by Continuum’s ensemble alongside members of the North Toronto Collegiate Institute orchestra. Now in its sixth year, Continuum in the Classroom has generated over 65 new works and engaged with over 4500 students.

Also this year is the second annual Toronto Teen Composer Award, a composition mentorship for TDSB students. One secondary school student, selected by a jury of contemporary music specialists, will receive professional mentorship from acclaimed composer Chris Thornborrow. Through the mentorship process, the selected student will create a new work, which will be performed by Continuum's internationally acclaimed ensemble in a special pre-concert presentation on January 21 at 918 Bathurst. More information on the Toronto Teen Composer Award is available here.
